Our verdict

The Ascent X3 is the easiest Ascent X to skip. It has the same 2.2 HP motor, 48 oz container, three blending programs (smoothies, frozen desserts, soups), self-cleaning program, digital timer and SELF-DETECT container reading as the X2. The difference is the control panel: touch buttons rather than the X2 dial and physical switches.

That makes the X3 a choice about feel and wiping clean rather than results. Moving up to the X4 adds two programs, the tamper indicator, the +15-second button and the touch interface, a bigger change for the step.

Like every Ascent X, it stands 17 inches tall with its container and carries a 10-year Vitamix warranty. Vitamix sells it in Shadow Black and Polar White.
