Our verdict

An immersion blender answers a different question from a Vitamix: blending soup in the pot instead of pouring it into a jug. The Control Grip does that comfortably, with a trigger-style handle, 15 speeds and an 8 in stainless shaft, and it comes with a whisk, a 25 oz chopper bowl and a 42 oz jug.

Power is its limit. 280 W is enough for soups, sauces and shakes, but reviewers find it struggles with tougher jobs. The one-year warranty is short for a premium stick blender, and Abt lists the parts as hand wash only.

Treat it as a companion to a countertop blender rather than a replacement for one.
