Blendtec Total Blender Classic

The original Blendtec base: the same motor, ten speeds and six presets, but a two-year warranty makes the Designer 650 the better buy.

Not for
Anyone who wants long warranty cover; the Designer 650 adds six more years for a small step up.

Our verdict

The Total Blender Classic is the better-equipped of the two Classic-series bases Blendtec still sells new. The base pairs the 1560 W motor found across the Classic and Designer lines with sealed push buttons, ten manual speeds, pulse and six preset cycles: smoothie, batters, hot soup, whole juice, ice cream and ice crush.

In the box is the 90 oz WildSide+ jar, the same one the Designer 650 uses, so day-to-day results should be close. The catch is the warranty: two years on a new unit, where the Designer 650 gets eight. Blendtec sells extended plans, but they add to the cost.

It makes most sense as a certified refurbished buy, or if the Designer is out of stock.

What owners say

Owners use the Total Blender Classic for daily smoothies and soups. Many report years of use and thousands of blends, and think it good value.
